Icons Legend and Description
Page back on map slider. Any map area can have 100's of map points as GeoTagged videos. To reduce the points clutter, map bounds is "paginated" for ease of navigation and organizing data. When you page back or forth, GeoTagged points are plotted on the map with video details underneath the map. Mouseover will highlight the video on the map and mouse over on the map point will highlight the video below so that you can visually see the reference point and details.
Pages to next map points on the map. See above.
Pages to next map points page at 5 seconds interval from the current slider(page) position. If you are lazy like me and want to see all the map points on a certain map bounds area, click on this image, sit back relax and see the map points move. You can pause it any point you like. See below.
Pauses the autopaging for map points.
Same as auto paging but this one starts over from page 1 of the map, unlike from the current position(page) on the slider.
This will zoom in to map point for the selected video and remove all other points in the vicinity. This is so that only your point of interest is shown. The zoom level it will zoom to is defined by the GeoTagger when tagging videos. More on that later.
Make favorite. Clicking on this icon will add the selected video to your favorites list. In order to do that you have to be logged in to the site. Oh yes, its FREE to become a member!. Sign up
here
if you haven't already.
Map Only: This icon represents the geo location of the video on the map. Clicking on this point will play the video for this point. Mouse over on this point will highlight the relative video for this point listed under the map.
Map Only: Remember that zooming in stuff up there... well this one is related to that. So when you zoom in to the video site and all the vicinity points are removed, you will see this icon on the right side of the map point, ofcourse on the map. Clicking this image will bring in all the vicinity points if any. This way you choose how you want to see the area - with one zoomed in point or all others too. Remember if there are 10's of points in the area, your point may disappear as it may not be in first page. You can move the slider below the map to a page where your point belongs too. You get the idea - no?
Map Only: When you mouse over video names below the map, this image appears on the map showing the location of the video that you have moused over. Oh yes, and clicking on the video name or the image will play the video on top right of the site.
If you are logged in and are in the "My Geomentary" section, you will see this image next to your favorite video list. Clicking on this will remove the video from your favorites. You will also see this image in the "Modify Video Settings" section where you as a site member redefine the zooms, points, categories etc. of your geotagged videos. Clicking this will remove your geatagged video. Anyone who has "favorited" your geotagged video will no longer be able to see this as a favorite. Makes sense?
As a site member, when you search videos from Google Video Database within the Geomentary site in the
Search N'Tag
section, clicking on this image next to the searched video list will set you up to geotag it. First you select the video you want to geotag by clicking on this image, then you select a point on the map provided right there - you can also get the point by typing in the address, city or just the country name underneath the map. Next you select the category and hit save - Now your selected video is geotagged. Fun and easy isn't it? Oh, by the way if someone has already geotagged the same video somewhere on the map, you will be s!@#$ out of luck as my grandma would say it.
As a site member, you will see this image next to your geotagged videos in the "Modify Videos Section" of the site accessible through "My Geomentary" section. This section lists all your geotagged videos. By clicking on this image, all the existing information for the selected video will appear on the map and below showing its existing geo-location, zoom level, category etc. You can readjust and redefine all the parameters and save it back. This change will be immediate.
Whats all on the front page?
Here is the break down:
Map Area: This is where are the geotagged points will appear. These points are generated by users like yourself. Panning and zooming the map will render points from the viewable area only. The slider below shows the number of map points and hence the total number of pages of data for the viewable map area, refered as map bounds also.
You can move to next page with more map points for the current map bounds area. This is designed such so that the map is not cluttered and your browser is not strained with hundreds or thousands of points. After all we want you to use this effieciently and not sit wait and crash... Defeats the purpose huh?
Videos list is generated based on the current map bounds. Any points that you see on the map area will have corresponding videos listed below it. Moving and panning the map will change the video content in real time - as it will always correspond to the view area only. Zooming in or zooming out will change the video content as map points increase or decrease accordingly.
The top right Video Player is always available to you. Whenever you click the video name from the video list or map points on the map, the corresponding video will start playing.
The Recent Adds section is where you will see the latest 5 videos that were added by users like you. That you stay up-to-date and whats being added. Not to mention all these videos will be plotted on the map anyway... So chances of you missing out are almost none.
My Faves is really My Favorites section, visible only when you are logged in. This section lists your favorite GeoTagged videos. You can paginate here also and view them all.
How do I GeoTag videos?
They say pictures are worth a thousand words... Well, refer to the picture on your right. In order to GeoTag videos you have to be a Geomentary member and logged in. Its all free of course.
Here are the steps after you are logged in and in "Search N'Tag" section:
Search videos
Select the video you want tagged
Preview it if you like
Select a point by clicking on the map or by performing address search below the map.
Select the category
Hit SAVE
This should do it. Please
NOTE
that whatever zoom level you see there on the map is what the other users will see when they use the
Zoom In option. What you see there is what and others will get. So set the zoom level the way you want others and yourself to see it.
How do I modify my GeoTagged settings?
So ok, you have GeoTagged and its all great but realized you have screwed something up. Yes it could be the location, category, or the zoom level that is very close and "microscopic". Hmmm... fear no more, in "My Geomentary" click on "Modify Video Settings". This will list all your tagged videos.
Select the video that you want to change settings on. Your selection will show you the existing information on the map, category and zoom level - just like how it is being viewed. Now you can do the following:
Change map point to a new one. Screwed up huh?
Change the category
Set new zoom level
Or heck just delete the video
As always you can preview your video there too by clicking on it.
Can I watch videos in full screen?
Yes you can - but here is the caveat. If your graphics card is capable and you have Flash 9.x installed, you should be able to watch videos full screen. Please refer to the image on the right, the arrow points to Full Screen button on your player. If your machine is not capable, meaning graphics card issue or not having Flash 9.x installed, this button won't show.
Sometimes videos wait and do not play...
This could happen for two reasons:
Someone has deleted this video from Google Videos Database. Essentially this has to be removed from Geomentary too.
Sometimes I have observed that some of the Google Video servers get bogged down or are taken out for maintenance. Usually within few minutes or hours they come back online and all videos work fine. This behavior occurs on some videos and not all at the same time. Not all videos are hosted on the same Google Server, so hence this behavior.
Please notify us at
support@geomentary.com
if this problem persists for some videos.
